One Last Tecumseh 2009

Last post here just of me doing what I like to do - give the peace sign. Not exactly sure what point this was, but I assure you Coach Misty was just a bit in front - I was being a Taramahara and trailing her! Doesn't look all that hard of running, but that damn marathon is one tough one to do, but oh so sweet when you finish and get something to eat and get to stand by the blazing-hot fire in the ole CCC shelter. Life is good!

peace

Tecumseh 2009 - Coach Misty 2

Here's another of Coach Misty at the finish. My, she looks so unfazed from doing 26.2+ miles in that terrain - unlike myself - beat and tore-up. Don't know how she does it? She tells me just to - run! But, seems so simple an explanation. Maybe some day I will catch-on?

peace,

the Frog

Tecumseh 2009 - Coach Misty

FYI - that's Coach Misty up one of the infamous big-hills at Tecumseh. It's a bit blurry, but then again I am trying to do photography on the run! Judging by the other runners she is following that mantra of hers to run "even-effort" on the hills, so those others are maybe expending way too much precious energy on that asecent? Didn't take notes on their bib numbers, so have no way of telling where they finished, but I doubt they were ahead of Coach M.

peace,

the Other Frog

Tecumseh 2009

FYI,

Pic of frog in not-so-good-form at the finish line at Tecumseh Trail Maration in 4:29-something, 30 or so seconds behind Coach Misty. I wish I would have recognized she was so close because I would have made an effort to trounce it right behind her.....whatever!

The photographer there at the finish gets my rathe in the sense I approached that line in great form, head-up, both hands in the air with the V or peace-sign, whichever you prefer, and she missed that moment, as well as capturing the time clock in the background. And they call themselves professionals with friggin digital cameras? Oh well, it is the best I can do. Will post a few others of the Coach later on!

peace,

SUP 2?

OK, you DRR,

Nothing up there about Tecumseh on December 5th where the Frog about killed himself trying to post a good finish time. I almost caught up to "Coach-M" and if I knew I was that close that last mile I might have run even harder. But this Frog has no intentions of ever finishing 1-foot in front of Coach.

So, where is all this "family" thing? Let's get this DRR thing back in the swing. Ya, I got no way to get to you, at least until Feb 18th, but meanwhile it would be nice to see some news of all your DRR doings up here so I can keep reasonable pace with you.

Hey, at least get some news up there about Tecumseh, Dec 5, 2009 because I know there were some of you out there like the Om-man, Misty, Betty and not sure if others.

I ran that damn trail marathon the best I could and proud to wear that DRR shirt. And, I did get some compliments referrring to Dirty Red, especially coming down the home-stretch when I got my feet on real-pavement and could do some solid pushing-off on foot-strike.

I miss ya DRR so let's get this "family" back to its roots! I guess that means Misty has to do more work than she has time to tend to. OK, Coach, I understand, but you better work with me to get ready for Leadville!

And, then there is Boston. I know at least one of you are going. Are there more? What about that Fast-Jen - I came close to keeping up with you last year. Just would be nice to hear from some of yous!

peace my running brothers and sisters,

Frogger

2010 Team

I am trying to pull the team together and get some ideas of what we want DRR to be. It's been a little crazy the past few months with ultra marathon training and busy lives, but Team DiRTY ReD is a family! I am working on some team plans for 2010 and hope that you still want to be part of the team. In the next month or so, I will be organizing the team for next year. If you don't want to be a part of the team, let me know! Hopefully we can pull the family back together and live up to the DiRTY ReD Racing Name.

Good Luck to everyone who is running the Chicago Marathon!! Hopefully we will have some DiRTY ReD team shirts out there! : )

Misty

SUP?

Hey gang, what's up with Dirty Red? No new posts or news since July! Want about Dances With Dirt? I would have thought some news and pics would be up here by now! Anyways, just wondering SUP with the DR!

DiRTY ReD Challenge

TEAM DIRTY RED . . . LOOKING FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Hey TEAM DIRTY RED! I hope we are all well and running happy!

As some of you may know, I have been trying to figure out how my running group could run and stay fit with a purpose. I know that we all have our reasons for running, whether it be losing weight, staying fit or just for the friendships that we build. All of that is fantastic but I wanted a little bit more! I came across an organization that a friend told me about and we went to visit late, last year called STAND UP 4 KIDS! I didn't know what to expect when I collected the clothes and cooked food for the organization but was impressed, suprised and shocked all at the same time.

Did you know that there are more than one and a half million children, teenagers and young adults trying to survive on U.S. streets today and even though we are in a very meatless economy right now, we are still one of the richest countries in the world!

So, one of my good fitness friends Kate Deering from KateDFitness and I wanted to do SOMETHING to help this cause! We have come up with the DIRTY RED FITNESS CHALLENGE! Now, for us, this will include the following events 5K, 10K, 1/2 marathon, marathon, duathlon and triathlon. We are guessing this will be within a 6-8 month time frame and for every mile we run, bike or swim we will ask for a donation of $1!!! Now, throughout this fitness challenge, we will update our supporters, talk about our workouts, gear and challenges that lie ahead.

If you are interested in joining this challenge, please contact us at info@dirtyredgear.com or call us at 1.800.719.9403 ext. 1! If you want to put together different events in your area, that will be fine. We are working on a points system so that one person can win a series of prizes as we move through and finish this grueling challenge! We will let you know how to get started and direct you to your local Stand Up 4 Kids Organization!

Come on team! Let's Help and Stay Active at the same time!
Don't let them Run Away, let them Run with Us!

I hope everyone is enjoying this warm weather. Hope to see everyone soon!

DiRTY ReD Tackles Clinton Lake

Clinton Lake is another success for the DiRTY ReD Racing Team. Even with the unexpected cold tempature, wind and rain, the team proved once again, that 30 miles is "not that far"..
Congrats to Mike Groce for his very first distance longer than 17 miles! Who needs to run a marathon when you can run an ultra, right? Bob Sweitz ran an awesome race, he is ready to sign up for The Dances With Dirt 50 miler in September. Congrats to Josh for doing your measly 30 miles! Good luck on your 100 miler in a few weeks. Your team will be cheering for you! Frank, great job as always! Noelle and Brian, welcome to the land of ultra running! Great job!
We had a great time in DeWitt this weekend. I hope the rest of the team wants to join us there next year. Team DiRTY ReD Indiana is well known down at Clinton. Next time we will need some more red shirts!

Great job team!

Posting Group Runs and Last Minute Changes

With over 20 runners that participate in group runs throughout the week, group run time changes can be difficult. In order to be consistent, I am asking you guys to email me with any restrictions in the normal group run schedules for the following week. I will post group runs by Monday morning. Please make me aware of any time preferences by then.

Also, if added group runs are posted, please email me with the additional runs instead of posting them. I would like to keep the "Group Runs" for the week within the same post. I can edit the blog if needed. It keeps it much cleaner and also keeps the post current.

We are working on membership forms and they will be out shortly. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions on how we can make the team better, let me know. Dirty Red is made up of all of us, not just a few people. I would love to hear any and all feedback, good or bad. 2009 is going to be an exciting year, so get ready to DiRTY Up!

Thank you for being a part of the BEST racing team in Northwest Indiana!!

Time For Encouragement

All Ultra-Runner Veterans and Ultra-Runner Novices:

"If you get tired in a trail race, lie down in the middle of the trail in such a way that no one could pass you, without waking you up ------- it will insure your finish line position."

Dunes Run

Doing 14 or whatever we can fit in is fine with me of course. See you all at Jen's Sunday am. 7:15am.

Oh, The Weather Outside Is Frightful.....

It's time to go indooors Dirty Red. Join me if you can at Merrillville H.S. 's indoor track on Thursday, 15 January, for a warm workout of four 800's. A mile and 1/2 warm up and cool down will give us a nice five mile total. Be ready to run 6:30p.m. ish.
If this works well, we should continue an indoor workout for another 5 weeks or so. Since we are all distance runners, the emphasis will be on repeats of greater distance, increased numbers and shorter recoveries.

Didn't know how many of you log your runs, but here's a great site with a free service.

New Year's Poem by Frank Johnson

It was new Years Eve, Just past noon
Everyone was anticipating year 2009 soon

2008 will soon be in the past
but true Dirty Red will still run so fast

The miles are gone and too many to add
But new ones await so don't get too sad

Jill was successful and will be Boston Bound
So if you look for her in April, thats where she will be found

Fast Jen had her good year and conquored them all
But, Clinton this year..man will it take a fall.

Misty our Red leader was inspiring all year.
so when you see her running, stop and give her a cheer.

Brian is Brian and every year is the same
he will run at 100 and make the Red Hall of Fame.

Jim turned to ultras and finished them all
he should take a big bow and keep standing tall.

I give my name of "Rock" to Betty this year...
she finished her ultra after getting hit by a deer.

as for me...what's next?. will I go forever?
Most likely so, as I see the end as never

So new races in 09 are sure to abound.
keep searching the net to see what is found.

May Happiness and health tonight come with your beer.
so tomorrow starts, I hope, for everyone A happy New year!!

Frank.

Congrats to DRR

I just wanted to congratulate everyone on their success at Tecumseh. It wasn't easy out there. I think we all came home with a few bruises, but no broken bones. Lets all remember to keep Patrice in our thoughts and prayers. I hope everyone decides to come back next year. Especially Darci if she ever forgives Misty. It really was a great weekend with a lot of laughs. Looking forward to more good times with you all. Go DIRTY RED!!!
Fast Jen
P.S. If anyone is interested I am going to wheeler Tues night between 630 and 645 to run a slow 5 mile run. I might even consider it a jog. (I am really sore).

Dirty Red Runs Tecumseh

Congratulations to the DiRTY ReD racing team! We had a blast down at Tecumseh. The weather was brutal! With temps in the 20's and a wind chill of 10 degrees, it was not the easiest to deal with. The trails were snow covered and icy, with switchbacks and plenty of downhills to slip on, but Team DiRTY ReD managed to finish strong. Chris Beyers was the the top female runner for Dirty Red and Darci acquired herself a new nickname. I believe it was " Slip". I think she loved Tecumseh and is looking forward to next years race! Great job Darci! Maybe someday you will forgive me? lol.

Along the trail ( at mile 5) , we met Brett Hess, a freelance writer for Marathon & Beyond and also a writer for RunIndiana.com. He wrote a story about us on his website. Check it out! Thanks Brett for your company on the trails! It was a pleasure talking to you and we look forward to seeing you at the Huff Ultra Marathon!

Misty, Betty and Jen finished side by side just like always! The DiRTY ReD trio was the name we were given. Frank ran a great race out there with a 4:15. Jill, Darci and Cass came in together as well. Way to stick together out there! Brian and Jim you two rock as usual! A huge thank you goes out to Mark and Katie for giving us a ride back to the hotel. Can you believe that we fit 12 adults in a Jeep Cherokee? Desperation is an amazing thing!

I'm looking forward to many more miles together. I am proud to be a part of Team DiRTY ReD.

A DiRTY ReD Weekend

Just a reminder, we are leaving Friday at 1:00pm for Bloomington. Jill, Cass and Frank are all driving, so we should have plenty of room for everyone. Looks like the weather is highs in the upper 30's and lows in the lower 20's.

The shirts are in and Jill is working hard on getting them screen printed today. We are not promising that they will be ready, but we are going to give it our best effort! Knowing Jill, she will get it done! All she has to say is, " Don't you know who we are????????" and I am sure that it will get taken care of! Go Jill!
The hats didn't all come in so please bring something else.

I wish everyone the best of luck out there! Go out there and race it DiRTY ReD style!

Thanksgiving Day double helping

Congradulations to Fast Jen for her overall win at the Gobbler Classic 5k. She then ran Pumkin Plod 6 Mile race, finishing 1st in her age group. Misty finished the double up with a 1st in age and another 1st in age. Jill running only the first race (There are holiday events to attend to) earned a second in age group. This gave the DiRTy ReD girls a clean 1-2-3 sweep overall. Michele narrowly missed an award in the first race which gave only 2 awards for 10 year span, age groups. She did however earn a pie in her second effort. The second race of a double up like this is very difficult. To see results like this is awesome.
